Divisional Playoffs. The Seahawks invade Atlanta to take on the #1 seeded Falcons for the right to take on the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. That game is likely to be in the afternoon time slot next week.
This game will offer an interesting challenge for the Seahawks. The Falcons have a good offense with plenty of balance. The Seahawks will be tempted to drop 8 guys back into coverage on passing downs, but that will make them vulnerable the Altanta’s run attack.
Live Chat will begin about 5 minutes before kickoff.
Seahawks Inactives:WR D. Butler, CB D. Shead, CB B. Maxwell, LB A. Bradford, G R. Johnson, T M. Person, DT J. Howard.
The two big names missing from Seattle’s roster won’t be found on that list. Both DE Chris Clemons and K Steven Hauschka were placed on IR after last week’s playoff win over Washington. Hauschka was replaced by Ryan Longwell. Clemons isn’t simply replaceable. Bruce Irvin and Greg Scrugg will both see time at Clemons’s Leo position, and the Seahawks will try and use linebackers to rush the passer from Irvin’s usual spot.
I’m a little surprised to see Maxwell on here given Altlanta’s solid receivers.
Falcons Inactives: QB Davis, WR Toone, CB Owens, OG Manley, OG Gunn, T Holmes, DE Sidbury.
It’s playoff time! The winner goes to Atlanta to take on the Falcons next week. The loser begins their offseason sooner than they’d like.
Due to the weirdness of NFL playoff seeding rules, The Seahawks come into this game as the better team with more win, but are still the lower seed. Not that I’m complaining. The rules worked to our advantage back in 2010 for the beastquake game. I’ve just always found them to be a bit odd.
Final line for this game has the Seahawks favored by a FG, even though they are on the road.
Live Chat will begin 5-10 minutes before kickoff.
I’ll update with inactives for the game once they are announced.
Seattle is surprisingly healthy for this game. There are just 2 players on the injury report (Lynch and Lane) and both are listed as “probable.” The Seahawks also will get a big boost by getting Brandon Browner back from his 4 game suspension.
Washington is a lot less healthy coming into this game. They have 13 players on their injury report, though 11 of those are listed as “probable” and will be available to play. Only 2, DeJuan Gomes and Kory Lichtensteiger, are listed as “questionable.”
Seahawks Inactives: WR Butler, SS Guy, CB Shead, LB Bradford, G Johnson, T Person, DT Howard
Redskins Inactives: QB Groxxman, WR Banks, WR Briscoe, LB Muckelroy, LB So’oto, T Compton, G Gettis
This will be the final regular season live game chat of the year, but only because this is the final regular season game of the year. This game isn’t meaningless for the Seahawks, but it could be rendered so by halftime if the 49ers jump out to a big early lead on the Cardinals. If that happens, expect to see plenty of backups in the game int he 2nd half.
Besides the game, I plan on talking about the coaching and GM firing expected tomorrow, end of year awards, playoffs, and offseason needs and priorities. I hope you with join me for the discussion.
Live chat will begin 5-10 minutes before kickoff.
Seahawks Inactives: SS Guy, CB Thurmond, CB Shead, LB Hill, G Johnson, G Moffitt, T Person
Thurmond is the biggest name on this list for Seattle. He apparently suffered a setback on his hamstring injury. Hopefully he will be back by next week. Trufant is off of this for the first tim in 3 weeks.
Moffitt is again inactive. His knee has been bothering him all season, but I don’t think it is stopping him from playing. Whether or not the injury is a factor here, Sweezy is just the better player right now.
Rams inactives: QB Davis, WR Smith, RB Ganaway, TE Harkey, LB Brown, T Barksdale, DT Conrath
Aren’t rivalry games fun? Seriously. It’s especially true when both teams are very good. These games are the best ones every year.
A lot of the drama was taken out of this game when the Patriot failed to show up in their game against the 49ers last week. Had they won, this game would have been for the division lead, but they didn’t. Now theres almost nothing at stak. Win or lose the 49ers likely to win the division, and the Seahawks are likely to take the #5 seed. All that’s left to play for is pride and bragging rights.
Live chat will begin about 5-10 minutes before kickoff.
I’ll update this with inactive lists once they come out.
There’s some big players on both teams who we’re waiting to hear if they’ll play. Sydney Rice, Marcus Trufant, Walter Thurmond and Jerron Johnson are all game time decisions for the Seahawks. Justin Smith among those we’re waiting to hear about for the 49ers.
Every game is important at this point in the season. A loss to a bad team like Buffalo in a game like this and The Seahawks’ playoff hopes can be dashed fairly quickly.
The Seahawks have a shot at the #2 seed, which means a first round bye and at least 1 home playoff game. To get there, they have to win out, and get a little help, but that help isn’t unreasonable in this case. The Seahawks would need the Packers to lose one game, and the 49 to lose to New England. Both are definitely possible.
Live Chat will start about 5 minutes before kickoff.
Seahawks inactives: CBs Marcus Trufant, Walter Thurmond & DeShawn Shead, DT Jaye Howard, G Rishaw Johnson, and WR Deon Butler
The Seahawks have a big concern at CB now. Their #2, #3, and #4 CBs are all out for this game, meaning the 5th and 6th string CBs will both be on the field for much of this game. Throw in that SS Kam Chancellor, who will play, is also slowed with a injury, and the Seahawks may be in trouble. The secondary has been the strength of this defense all season, but that clearly wont be the case today.
LeRoy Hill is back and back in the starting lineup. I’m pretty annoyed by this. Malcolm Smith has clearly outplayed Hill when given a chance to get on the field. Smith is definitely the better players and should be playing. Pete Carroll’s talk of everyone having to always compete for their job is apparently only talk and no substance in this case.
Buffalo inactives: QB T. Jackson, WR D. Jones, CB L. McKelvin, CB T. Heath, DL J. Ross, C E. Wood, OL C. Scott.
Every game is important at this point in the Season. The Seahawks simply can’t afford to get tripped up by a weaker team, at least not again, especially at home. The Seahawks control their own destiny in terms of getting into the playoffs, and it needs to stay that way.
The one thing the Seahawks haven’t shown is the killer instinct needed to really beat up on bad teams. We saw it against the Rams, and the Dolphins, and the Lions, and even these same Arizona Cardinals back in week 1. It’s an alarming trend, and one that the Seahawks need to end. The one other thing that all of those losses having in common though is that they were all on the road.
Today, the Seahawks have the 12th Man at there backs.
Live chat will start about 5 minutes before kickoff. We’ll be doing it a little different this week. I’m going to do my best to avoid it feeling like a play-by-play. Instead I’m hoping to talk about playoffs, the roster needs, the play of the new CBs, etc. Lets get some real discussion going.
Seahawks inactives: WR Charly Martin, CB Marcus Trufant, CB DeShawn Shead, Cb Ron Parker, G Rishaw Johnson, T Mike Person, DT Jaye Howard
The biggest name that wont be playing actually isn’t on that list. Brandon Browner has started serving his suspension this week, and wont be available until after the end of the regular season. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Walter Thurmond. Marcus Trufant is also out, and his snaps will be taken by Jeremy Lane.
Another name not up there that will be missed is LG James Carpenter. His knee forced him to be placed on IR this week. McQuistan moves back to LG from the right side, and John Moffitt gets the start at RG.
I should also note that Malcolm Smith will get the start at weak side LB in place of LeRoy Hill. Hill has been bothered by an ankle injury, but likely wouldn’t have started over Smith this week even if Hill had been healthy. Hill is active, and will be available if needed.
Cardinals inactives: QB Kolb, WR Byrd, CB Fleming, G Kelemete, T McQuistan, TE Sperry and DE Talley
An important game for the Seahawks this week. Lose, and they fall to 6-6 and will need help from other teams to get into the playoffs. Win, and they’re 7-5 and will control their own destiny. This late in the season, you can’t keep waiting to later. Sometimes you just need to get it done now.
Live Chat will begin about 5 minutes before kickoff.
Seahawks inactives: Jermaine Kearse, Charly Martin, Marcus Trufant, Leroy Hill, JR Sweezy, Mike Person, Jaye Howard
You’ll notice that Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner aren’t on that list. Their suspension were postposed for 1 week for the appeals process. Expect them to begin serving their suspensions next week.
Marcus Trufant hurt his hamstring on Thursday, and that is why he’s not available today. Walter Thurmond will finally make his season debut this week and will take Trufant’s snaps. Thurmond has been recovering from a broken leg suffered over a year ago. He began the year on the Physically Unable To Preform (PUP) list.
The other notable name on the list is weak side LB LeRoy Hill. He hurt his ankle and wont be playing. Mike Morgan gets the start in his place this week.
Bears inactives: Josh McCown, Alshon Jeffery, Devin Hester, D.J. Moore, Chris Spencer, Matt Toeaina, Cheta Ozougwu.
Join us for some live chat during the game. We’ll be starting about 5 minutes before kickoff.
This is an important game for the Seahawks. At 4 -4, the Seahawks are in danger of falling out of the playoff race before it really gets going. A loss at home to yet another team in the wild card hunt and it could be all but over for this team. Luckily, the Seahawks are 3-0 at home, and have beaten some of the league’s best teams already at C-Link, so there shouldn’t be much reason to worry.
Seahawks Inactives: WR Braylon Edwards, S Winston Guy, CB Byron Maxwell, OT Mike Person, OG James Carpenter, DT Jason Jones, DT Jaye Howard.
The big names on this list are Jones, Edwards and Carpenter. All 3 get considerable playing time when healthy, and are a big part of what the Seahawks do on Sundays. Moffitt is back from just injury and will replace Carpenter. Jones will be replaced by Scruggs. Hopefully he can show more than he did last week, where he was mostly ineffective.
With Obomanu on IR now, and Edwards injured, the Seahawks are lacking the big target opposite Sydney Rice. Golden Tate will be getting his usual playing time at Split End, but the situational substitutions to help out in the red zone and on running downs wont be available this week.
Vikings inactives: McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Stephen Burton, Jarius WRight, Mistral Raymond, Audie Cole, Mark Asper, John Carlson
I tried to set up a live chat for this week, but it seems that I needed to install some software to the site in order for it to show up and work. That’s just annoying. I’ll try again next week, and hopefully have it working so we can all join in to a live conversation.
In the mean time, I’m going to go back to my usual twitter widget. I know that it doesn’t stop broadcasting when the game ends, and thus it isn’t readable post-game. I also know that man of you aren’t on twitter and thus can’t join in. I’m working on it. That is why i was trying to set up live chat software game days. So I’m working on it. Please bear with me for another week while I figure it out.
