Trainng Report: 1/31

Tuesday marked the first day of two-a-days for the Sounders FC in Casa Grande, Arizona.

The morning session featured two fans in attendance - a couple from Bainbridge Island that spent a month on vacation in Tucson and stopped by Grande Sports World for a visit with their favorite club.

On the field, the Sounders warmed up, then went through a high-speed passing drill, alternating between short and long passes.

That transitioned into three separate games as the team split into six groups.  On one field, they played 5v4 with four small goals, two on each end of the field.  Another featured 6v5 with goalkeepers in large goals on either side of the shortened field.  The third feagured another 5v4 game with goals on all four sides of the small field.

After six cycles on the games, the team finished with some fitness work on the field before wrapping up the morning session.

The evening session started with a warmup, some fitness drills and some passing drills.

They then moved to three games of 6v2 before transitioning into bigger games.  First, that meant an 8v8 possession game with the remaining eight players surrounding the grid for extra passes, though players were limited to one or two touches.

Finally, the teams played 9v9, using the width of the field with goals on either sideline.

Brad Evans opened scoring by converting on a run up the left side to chase down a leading pass.  Soon after that, Mauro Rosales fed Fredy Montero for a goal, then scored a goal of his own after tracking down a long ball and slotting it into the net.

Roger Levesque had similar success, first setting up a goal for David Estrada, then scoring off a low cross from Lamar Neagle.

A small group, including Steve Zakuani and Josh Ford, stayed inside to do a weights session with a trainer.

On Wednesday, the Sounders will train at 10, then hold a team weight-training session in the afternoon.
