One player taken in Re-Entry Draft

The Stage One draft of the Re-Entry Process came and went on Friday with only one player’s name called on the league’s conference call, as the Chicago Fire selected DC United forward Maicon Santos.

That means the players who went unselected will be eligible for the Stage Two draft next Friday, with the drafting club having the opportunity to renegotiate contract terms with players.  The Sounders hold the 16th pick in the draft.

Santos scored seven goals with DC United last year, tied for second on the team with Dwayne De Rosario, trailing only the 12 goals of Chris Pontius for DC.  In 88 career matches, 61 starts, he has 21 goals and eight assists.  Chicago will be his fifth team since coming to MLS in 2009.  Previously, he played with Chivas USA, Toronto FC, FC Dallas and DC United.
