One last training session before a flurry of games for the Sounders
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Sounders FC held their final training session before they race through three games in four days to conclude the Tucson leg of training camp, going through the paces at Kino Sports Complex with a morning session on Tuesday.
After a warmup, the team was split into two teams of 12 field players each and they played a shortened field game of 14v14 with four goals – two on each end of the field as they went through a drill that has become a staple for the team on the day before a match. With the focus being on changing the route of attack, Mario Martinez continued to shine on one particular play, banging in a goal off the volley.
Next, the team was split even further, with a group of players working on crossing and finishing on one end of the field while the other group was split into two teams for a series of 6v6 games with goals in tight.
As the day concluded and the players went their own ways after lunch, the club announced the acquisition of midfielder Shalrie Joseph in a trade with Chivas USA. The 10-year MLS veteran is expected to join the team in Tucson on Wednesday.
