Johansson called in by Sweden for King’s Cup
The new year is only just upon us, but already the national team call-ups have begun for the Sounders FC.
Defender Adam Johansson will play for Sweden in the King’s Cup in Thailand, running from January 23-26. Sweden will also play a friendly against Argentina on February 6.
Johansson came to the Sounders a year ago after playing his whole career in Sweden. He started 21 matches in MLS and made 28 appearances across all competitions. He picked up two assists against the New York Red Bulls on July 15 in a 2-2 draw in perhaps his best game as a Sounder and has been a semi-regular call-in for Sweden.
With 12 caps, Johansson is among the most experienced players on Sweden’s roster for the King’s Cup, a tournament that has run every year since 1968, with the exception of 1983, 1985, 2008 and 2011. This is Sweden’s first appearance in the tournament since winning in 2003.
