Intensity and fitness key for Thursday training

CASA GRANDE, Arizona – The Sounders FC continued their training in Casa Grande on Thursday with an intense morning session followed by an afternoon fitness session.

The Sounders continued their fitness work and on Thursday they opened the day with a warmup and a series of drills focused on the offensive side of the ball, but also decision-making on the defensive side.

It started with a 3v2 breakaway drill designed to work on scoring goals on the attack.  However the defenders and goalkeepers shined in the drill, thwarting more of the attack than expected.

Next, they moved into two separate short-sided games with four small goals – two on either side of the field.  One was 6v6 and the other was 6v6+1 and the focus was building the attack while also switching the point of attack frequently.  During this time, the goalkeepers went through an intensive session with coach Tom Dutra.

They concluded the morning session with some fitness work and that carried over into their afternoon fitness session.
