Fucito on the move and more from Indianapolis
Wednesday was a busy day in Indianapolis, with several teams making announcements throughout the day. The movement around the league didn’t stop there though.
On Thursday morning, another star signed a contract extension, the Rapids brought in a 22-year-old Chilean and former Sounder Mike Fucito found a new home.
Fucito, 26, went from the Portland Timbers to the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for San Jose’s second-round pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. Fucito, Seattle’s fourth-round pick in the 2009 SuperDraft, joined the team at midseason that year and went on to be a pesky forward through the 2011 season. He scored 10 goals and added three assists in 38 matches across all competitions, including five goals in CONCACAF Champions League.
Fucito was moved to the Montreal Impact in preseason last year with Lamar Neagle in a trade for Eddie Johnson, then went to Portland in a midseason trade. In total, he played 13 matches in 2012.
Meanwhile, Real Salt Lake re-signed star midfielder Javier Morales, ensuring that their all-time assist leader will stay at Rio Tinto Stadium in 2013. Morales, 33, has 20 goals and 43 assists in 127 career matches over six seasons. He had three goals and nine assists in 29 matches last year.
Finally, RSL’s Rocky Mountain rivals, the Colorado Rapids, added Chilean winger Kevin Harbottle. The 22-year-old has played professionally since 2009, most recently with Universidad Catolica.
