Former Sounder Riley shipped to DC United

The exodus from Chivas USA continued on Thursday when they sent former Sounders FC defender James Riley to DC United in exchange for a second round pick in the 2015 MLS Supplemental Draft.

DC will become Riley’s fifth team since coming to MLS in 2005 out of Wake Forest.  After three seasons with the New England Revolution, he was taken in the 2007 expansion draft by the San Jose Earthquakes, then the 2008 expansion draft by Seattle.

For the Sounders, Riley started all 84 of his appearances, finishing with one goal and nine assists over three seasons.  He was also twice named the Sounders FC Humanitarian of the Year for his wide-ranging efforts in the Seattle-area communities.

He was selected again in the 2011 expansion draft by the Montreal Impact and then traded immediately to Chivas USA.

Riley, 30, is the eighth player to see regular minutes for Chivas USA in 2012 who is now with a new team.
