Evans subs on in dramatic win
Late in the international friendly between the US and Venezuela on Saturday, the match looked destined to end in a scoreless draw.
While the US was pushing for a goal throughout the match, the Venezuela defense and tactics kept them from breaking through and get on the scoreboard.
Sounders FC midfielder Brad Evans subbed on in the 88th minute with an eye toward helping the US find that game-winning strike. And while he didn't have a direct impact on the play, his run through the box cleared the area where Ricardo Clark eventually found the game-winning header seven minutes into stoppage time.
It was Evans' fifth US cap.
Defender Jeff Parke was on the bench, but did not make an appearance as he looks to make his international debut.
Parke and Evans both may see more time on Wednesday when the US faces Panama in Panama City.
"I’m excited for them," Sounders FC owner and general manager Adrian Hanauer said on Saturday before the match. "I hope they have a chance to get some minutes. They’ve both earned it. They’ve worked their tails off and are very high quality players. We’re excited that Jurgen (Klinsmann) called them in and hopefully they represent the rave green well in these two friendlies."
Wednesday's match will be on ESPN3 and Galavision.
