Evans and Johnson play extended minutes for US in 0-0 draw

US National Team January camp concluded on Tuesday night with a scoreless draw with Canada at Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium.

Sounders FC midfielder Brad Evans and forward Eddie Johnson both started the friendly match and Evans set Johnson up with a cross in the 60th minute, but Johnson’s contested shot missed high.

Evans started the match on the right side of midfield and played the second half as a right back, as Benny Feilhaber came on for Tony Beltran at halftime.  He was one of four US field players to play all 90 minutes.  Johnson played 73 minutes before being replaced by Will Bruin.

It is expected that head coach Jurgen Klinsmann will name his squad for America’s World Cup qualifying match against Honduras on February 6 in Honduras.  If either Johnson or Evans does not make that roster, they will return to the club in Casa Grande, Arizona for training camp.  Midfielder Mario Martinez has been named to the squad for Honduras and will not join the team until after the match.
