Eight non-roster players remain with Sounders

After a day off on Sunday, the Sounders FC got back on the training field at Starfire on Monday with a smaller group than the one that finished the first week of 2013 training camp with fitness testing.

After going through the paces with some passing and moving drills to close out the first portion of training, they moved into a 12v12 game that stretched from one endline to the top of the 18 yard box on the far side.

The numbers in camp had been reduced by cuts over the weekend.  The Sounders started training camp with a roster of 41 players, though not all of them wound up in camp, and on Monday there were 36 players on the list.

However, the club was still without defender Adam Johansson, midfielders Brad Evans and Mario Martinez and forward Eddie Johnson while that foursome was away with their national teams at training camp.  Additionally, new acquisition Lamar Neagle was not with the team and was expected to join them either Tuesday or Wednesday.  Cordell Cato also remains out of camp.

Patrick Ianni was out of training for the day after suffering a foot injury during fitness testing on Saturday.

That left a non-roster invitee list that includes goalkeeper Doug Herrick, defender Ashani Fairclough, midfielders Phillip Lund, Guy Essame and Kevin Olali and forwards Travis Bowen, Lebogang Meloto and Jennings Rex.  Meloto, Olali and Rex were all selected in the Supplemental Draft last week.

The team finished training with sprint-fitness work on the field, with a series of 17-second sprints.

The Sounders will train on Tuesday at Starfire before departing for Casa Grande, Arizona, for the next phase of camp.
