Brazilians Corinthians win 2012 FIFA Club World Cup
The Sounders will play in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals against Tigres from Mexico in early March. Winning that aggregate goal series would earn them a semifinal berth against the winner of the Santos Laguna-Houston Dynamo series. The winner of that April series will advance to the final beginning later that month.
In the end, the winner of the CONCACAF Champions League will reach the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup in December in Morroco.
Over the weekend, Japan hosted the final for the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup with Brazilian club Corinthians topping England’s Chelsea 1-0 in the final. The 2012 CCL champions Monterrey from Mexico finished third after posting a 2-0 victory over Al-Ahly from Egypt in the third-place game.
The Sounders topped Monterrey in Mexico during the 2011-2012 tournament, becoming only the second MLS club to ever win over a Mexican side in Mexico.
