Arena leads charge of locals in Supplemental Draft
The Sounders FC U23 squad had a standout first season in 2012 under head coach and general manager Darren Sawatzky.
On Tuesday, one more player from that team was selected by an MLS side as Anthony Arena led a trio of local products taken in the MLS Supplemental Draft.
Arena, from Kenmore, Washington, was drafted 18th overall in the Supplemental Draft by the Houston Dynamo after four years at Wake Forest. He played with the U23s last summer, playing ten matches and helping them win the Western Conference championship.
He joins a list that includes Sounders FC Homegrown signing DeAndre Yedlin and Montreal Impact first-round pick Fernando Monge as Sounders U23 players moving into MLS.
Other locals taken in the Supplemental Draft were UW midfielder Ben Fisk going 32nd overall to the New York Red Bulls and Gig Harbor product Machael David going 44th overall to the Colorado Rapids.
