Ryan not letting struggles carry over to field

As much as Brendan Ryan has struggled at the plate this season, the shortstop hasn't let those troubles follow him onto the field. Ryan has been golden with the glove, the best defender on a team that ranks second in the American League in fielding percentage (.989) and errors (14).

Wells honors mom's request, belts home run

Mariners left fielder Casper Wells got a Mother's Day request from his mom on Sunday morning. "She said, 'Hit a home run for me,'" said a grinning Wells after his team's 6-2 victory. Wells indeed delivered the long ball, driving a sixth-inning pitch by Andy Pettitte high off the right-field foul pole for a two-run shot.

Millwood, Mariners spoil Pettitte's return

The Yankees threw a welcome-back party for Andy Pettitte on Sunday, but Justin Smoak and Casper Wells had other ideas as they spoiled the reunion with two-run home runs in Seattle's 6-2 victory. The Mariners snapped an eight-game road losing streak as Kevin Millwood recorded his first win for Seattle with seven innings of one-run ball.

Millwood Chews Up Yankees 6-2

Millwood with plug under his lip?

Two veteran gunslingers Kevin Millwood and Andy Pettitte took the mound today for a Mothers Day duel at Yankee Stadium, and after the smoke cleared Kevin Millwood got the win. For Millwood it was his first win as a Mariner allowing only three hits on the day and you have to feel good for the tobacco chewing veteran who could very well have been pitching for his spot in the rotation today.

On the other side Andy Pettitte was making his first start of the year as he attempts to make a comeback after sitting on the sidelines for a year in retirement. Pettitte is a classy guy with the kind of poise and experience the Yankees love. However today Pettitte gave-up a pair of 2-run homers to Justin Smoak and Casper Wells that gave the Mariners all the offense they would need on this sunny day in the Bronx until they got a pair of runs in the ninth on a dribbler by Wells that was overthrown to first.

The Mariners defense came up with three crucial double plays today to assist Millwood get the win and salvage one game out of this series before heading up to Boston to face the Red Sox Monday. Great to see Justin Smoak have a good series at the plate as the weather starts to warm up. I’m also hoping that the dinger by Wells and his great throw to third in the ninth to get Swisher may be enough to get him in the lineup for a few days to see if he can add some pop to the offense.

I want to take this opportunity to wish all you Mothers out there a happy Mothers Day including my Mom Suzanne who loved this game and was an avid fan her whole life something I inherited.Go M’s! http://jeffsmariners.com

Wedge: Ichiro could be moved from No. 3 spot

Mariners manager Eric Wedge noted Sunday that the veteran position players he'd been counting on have not been producing this season and the weight is shifting even more to young players to carry the offensive load. He also spoke for the first time about possibly moving Ichiro Suzuki out of the No. 3 spot in the order.
